The Aikido Institute of Michigan was founded over 20 years ago at the urging of Seidokan founder, Rod T. Kobayashi. He urged us to share what we had learned with others and in the sharing we would learn even more.

Seiwa Dojo was started in Battle Creek, MI in the early 80’s. Over the years we have had satellite dojo open (by the efforts of some of our senior students) in Albion, Marshall, Coldwater, Kalamazoo and Portage Michigan as well as one in Illinois and Ohio.

I personally teach 4 classes per week, when I’m not traveling. Other classes are taught by my wife, Janean Crapo, a Yondan and Certified Instructor at the Shihan-Dai level – the highest ranked woman in our organization, as well as by other senior instructors. (For more information check out our Class Schedule and Instructor Profile section.)

Translated, Seiwa Dojo means Harmonious Spirit Place, long time members and visitors alike note the comfortable, peaceful training atmosphere. Our dojo is an extended family, one we invite you to join.
